Overview
Provide analytical support to the Trade and Market Intelligence section's work on value chain diagnostics and prioritisation, with a focus on African economies.
Key Responsibilities
- Collects, evaluates, interprets, analyses specified statistics and qualitative socio-economic information.
- Maintains databases and programmes for database management.
- Assists in the design, testing, operation and modification of econometric models.
- Prepares briefing notes, inputs to speeches and similar material.
- Prepares first drafts of sector, country or regional components of analytical studies.
- Assists in the organization and servicing of related missions and country consultations.
- Follows stakeholder meetings and prepares summary reports.
- Assists in the organization of panels, round tables etc.
- Prepares documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects.
- Monitors, backstops and assesses the implementation of technical cooperation programmes and projects.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities.
- Contributes to the analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights.
Required Experience
- A minimum of two years (four years with a first level degree) of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area, with a focus on trade is required.
- A minimum one year of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
- Experience with trade development projects is desirable.
- Experience with statistical analysis of trade-related data is desirable.
- Experience with quantitative analyses of value chains is desirable.
Qualifications
- An advanced level (Masters or equivalent) university degree in economics or related field. A first level university degree in the above subject or related field with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
- A PhD in economics or related field is desirable.
- Successful completion of degree and/or non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
