Overview
The Chief Environment Division is responsible for directing, organizing, and planning the division's operations, activities, and financial matters related to environment and WASH. The role leads the development and updating of agency-wide policies and strategies, and oversees the assessment of needs and challenges concerning infrastructure in refugee camps.
Key Responsibilities
- - Directs, organises and plans the divisional overall operations, activities and financial matters.
- - Leads the development and updating the Agency-wide environment and WASH policies, strategies and framework.
- - Leads the development of manuals, instructions, guidelines and tools.
- - Develops and implements innovative proposals to address environmental sustainability.
- - Reviews and clears the Agency-wide Solid Waste Management (SWM) framework.
- - Oversees the assessment of needs and challenges concerning infrastructure in refugee camps.
- - Oversees the provision of technical support and provides clearance to environmental, social, health and safety related documents/plans.
- - Develops capacity building programme for the Agency’s environment and WASH staff.
Required Experience
- At least ten years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in environmental/sanitation engineering, including, construction, project planning, management, and contract administration, of which at least five years should be at a senior, supervisory level is required.
- Experience in environmental sustainability, environmental and social management, and health and safety (ESHS) is required.
- Experience in strategy/policy development and formulation is required.
- Experience and advanced computer skills and IT applications such as Microsoft Project and MS-Office applications is required.
- Ability to conduct training courses is desirable.
- Good knowledge of the Middle East environment and cultures is desirable.
- Experience in management of engineering projects in developing countries is desirable.
- Knowledge of UNRWA’s financial and administrative systems is desirable.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in environmental engineering, environmental science or a related field.
