Overview
The Communication Specialist (Advocacy & Supporter Engagement) is accountable for designing, coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating advocacy and non-financial supporter engagement strategies to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for developing advocacy strategies.
- Coordinate office-wide prioritization exercises and strategy development discussions.
- Lead on drafting office-wide advocacy strategies.
- Collect insights and conduct research on political, economic, and cultural trends.
- Consult programme teams and external sources for stakeholder analyses.
- Propose new approaches and innovative ideas.
- Coordinate the implementation of advocacy strategies and plans.
- Design and implement public advocacy campaigns.
- Coordinate the implementation of advocacy campaigns.
- Design and coordinate the implementation of supporter and partner engagement plans.
- Establish baselines, indicators, and targets for monitoring advocacy and campaign effectiveness.
- Lead the design and implementation of a non-financial supporter engagement vision and plan.
- Oversee, guide, and support the development and implementation of youth engagement strategy.
- Lead on the development and implementation of influencer engagement strategy.
- Lead the establishment and nurturing of partnerships with celebrities and key opinion leaders.
- Ensure effective management of long-term UNICEF high-profile supporters.
- Convene and coordinate inclusive project teams for strategic initiatives.
- Manage day-to-day delivery of key projects and workstreams.
- Ensure effectiveness and transparent use of budget and resources.
- Ensure effective management of contractors.
- Contribute to building internal UNICEF capacities in advocacy.
- Supervise, support, and guide team members.
- Act as OIC to the Communication Section Chief when necessary.
Required Experience
A minimum of 5 (five) years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in advocacy/ campaigning and communications.
Qualifications
An Advanced University degree in Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, International Development, Public Administration, Economics, Communication or other relevant fields.
