Overview

The role is responsible for coordinating, forming, and following up on the care of the integral health and nutrition brigade to save lives through primary health care, disease prevention, basic epidemiological surveillance, and timely referral of cases.


Key Responsibilities
  • Guarantee the protection, dignity, security, and well-being of all persons attended.
  • Ensure equitable and non-discriminatory care, prioritizing nutritionally vulnerable populations.
  • Provide primary health care to children under 5 years old, adolescent women, pregnant and lactating women.
  • Attend prevalent childhood illnesses, prenatal care, postpartum, and neonatal care.
  • Perform triage, basic clinical evaluation, vital signs control, and case follow-up.
  • Identify health and life risks early and perform timely referral.
  • Evaluate and diagnose medical complications associated with nutritional status.
  • Prescribe or administer medications according to professional profile and established protocols.
  • Supervise the safe administration of deworming.
  • Ensure rational use of medicines.
  • Identify needs for medicines, medical supplies, and disposable materials and manage necessary orders.
  • Manage and safeguard the stock of medicines.
  • Support the evaluation of nutritional status.
  • Identify, treat, and follow up on cases of acute malnutrition.
  • Validate cases of edema detected during care.
  • Participate in epidemiological surveillance and analysis of the socio-sanitary context.
  • Establish and strengthen referral and counter-referral routes with the MSPAS.
  • Coordinate the referral of cases to hospitals or Nutritional Recovery Centers (CRN).
  • Sign required documentation for hospital or CRN referrals.
  • Provide counseling on disease prevention, self-care, hygiene, and health promotion.
  • Review vaccination cards and promote vaccination according to the national schedule.
  • Identify and articulate with community leaders to strengthen local health response.
  • Support training and capacity-building processes for health personnel and brigade members.
  • Ensure accurate and timely registration of health and nutrition data.
  • Consolidate information generated by the brigade and submit it to the corresponding instances.
  • Prepare and submit the monthly report on primary health care to the target population.
Required Experience
  • 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in basic epidemiological surveillance.
  • Experience in basic low and medium complexity clinical practice.
  • Verifiable knowledge in the Protocol for the management of acute malnutrition (outpatient and inpatient).
  • Knowledge of the Care Standards of the Ministry of Health Public and Social Assistance.
  • Knowledge of MSPAS official registration instruments, Health Management Information System (SIGSA).
  • Knowledge in medication supplementation.
  • Knowledge in Referral and Counter-referral System.
  • Solid general computer knowledge, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, among others) and email and Internet.
  • Desirable: Minimum 2 years of experience as a primary care physician.
  • Experience in managing medical complications of acute malnutrition at the outpatient and nutritional brigade level.
  • Experience in interventions related to the prevention and treatment of acute malnutrition.
  • Experience in applying participatory methodologies for food and nutritional education.
  • Experience in rural communities, as well as experience working in the UN or other international development organizations (is an advantage).
  • Certificate of the 20-hour breastfeeding course.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Licenciatura en medicina y cirugía, with active college registration or Licenciatura in nursing, with the corresponding accreditation.
  • In either case, the certificate or accreditation must be attached along with the professional degree.
