Overview
The Health Centre Pharmacist coordinates and implements day-to-day pharmacy operations, dispenses medication, and provides advice on medication use. The role ensures the availability of essential drugs and maintains proper documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinates and/or implements day-to-day operations and follows Health Department policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions.
- May supervise the work of other staff in the Pharmacy and assists in planning and reviewing their performance; provides technical guidance and ensures they are sufficiently trained.
- Participates in the day-to-day operations of the Pharmacy including dispensing, receipt and registry of medicine.
- Makes sure that all drugs on the UNRWA list of essential drugs are available.
- Documents / ensures the proper documentation of movements of medicine in the available pharmaceutical information system.
- Dispenses medication prescribed by the Medical Officer to patients.
- Provides advice to patients regarding the modality of intake of medications, their potential side effects and possible interactions.
- Advises Medical Officers and other health staff on related side effects of medications, possible drug-drug interactions and ensures rational prescribing.
- Educates groups and individuals on various issues with regards to medications.
- Produces periodic reports regarding the activities of the dispensary with an in-depth analysis of the findings.
- Ensures the cleanliness and tidiness of the dispensary is maintained.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Required Experience
- At least four years of progressively responsible and relevant professional experience in a similar role is required.
- Experience in the use of computers and an understanding of their use in health applications.
Qualifications
- A University Degree of five or six years from an accredited educational institution in Pharmacy.
- Possession of a license to practice pharmacy in the country of duty station.
