Overview

The Communication Assistant will support the Media and Communication Unit in implementing Public Information activities for IOM Italy, contributing to internal and external communication efforts.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the implementation of Public Information activities in line with IOM communication guidelines.
  • Support social media plans and maintain IOM Italy’s social media channels.
  • Assist in drafting and updating editorial plans.
  • Compile data on communication activities’ performance and draft reports.
  • Assist in the administrative coordination of information campaigns.
  • Assist in the preparation and dissemination of public information materials.
  • Support the production of printed and digital materials.
  • Assist in drafting or translating content in English and Italian.
  • Assist with internal communication by sharing information within IOM Italy and with other IOM offices.
  • Assist in organizing public information activities in English and Italian.
  • Assist in preparing and publishing social media content.
  • Assist in compiling media monitoring summaries and data tables.
  • Assist in compiling background information for communication materials.
  • Assist in preparing communication materials, including talking points and briefing notes.
  • Perform any other assigned duties.
Required Experience
  • High school diploma with four years of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree with two years of professional experience in communication, preferably in the field of migration.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Good drafting, writing and reporting skills.
  • Experience in web and social media content creation, and basic content planning.
  • Experience in video editing and in creating graphic content.
  • Good knowledge of major migration dynamics/context in the Mediterranean.
  • Familiarity with communication practices within international organizations, including experience in supporting regional coordination and communication frameworks in the Mediterranean context.
  • Experience in the preparation of newsletters, compiling data tables, drafting notes for the file, and compiling media monitoring reports in English.
  • Experience in supporting internal communication activities and liaising with colleagues across different units.
  • Experience in social media preparation, video editing, and the development of communication materials for social media.
  • Advanced computer literacy: proficiency in using Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Office 365.
  • Good knowledge of the main graphic and communication tools (Adobe, Canva, CapCut, Mailchimp, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage time and resources efficiently.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
Qualifications

High school diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public/Media Relations, International Relations, Global Governance, or Law from an accredited institution.

Languages Required
Fluency in Italian, both written and spoken, at a very advanced level, and proficiency in English is required.
Languages Preferred
Good knowledge of French and Spanish is considered an advantage.
Contract Duration
1 year with possibility of extension
