Overview

The Security and Safety Officer (SSO) advises the delegation on security risk assessment and associated mitigation measures while ensuring proper diffusion and access to information related to security in line with Duty of Care obligations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Compiles security related data/information, incidents, threats, trends and its source/origin on daily basis in security database (Safe Lens) with the necessary discretion and accuracy, through close collaboration with COM & OPS Room, and produces a monthly analysis report.
  • Reports security-related or acceptance-related events and changes that could have an impact on ICRC's activities.
  • Analyses security situation in Port Sudan/Khartoum and advises management on the potential risks to the ICRC staff, operations, and reputation.
  • Produces ad-hoc risk analysis and situation updates in case of any major development or when directed by FSCM CO.
  • In coordination with the FSCM CO, carries out the timely distribution of security alerts, advisories, and situation updates for staff in case of any event or developing situation having security and/or safety implications.
  • Organizes comprehensive security briefing for all new staff upon arrival/joining.
  • Develops and maintains a network of interlocutors within the security community (Government, humanitarian sector, NGOs and iNGOs etc) in coordination with his/her direct supervisor.
  • Maintains a proper list of all relevant security interlocutors and regularly updates key contacts and details of interactions.
  • Advises management on implications in case of non-compliance to security rules.
  • Supports management in dealing with possible (judicial) investigations into security or safety incidents.
  • Supports FSCM CO in assessing the safety of residences/hotels/training venues/roads (existing and new).
  • Manages security companies’ service contracts with complete transparency and professionalism, in consultation with FSCM CO and FAD.
  • Supervises security guards, including administrative matters related to their management and salary payments when required (i.e. roster, leave planning, replacements…).
  • Ensures the effective implementation of procedures related to staff travel permits, Vehicle safety, First Aid, Radio contacts, emergency response, etc. for all field movements.
Required Experience

3-6 years’ experience in a similar field of activity.

Qualifications

University degree. Security & safety management background, experience in crisis management an asset, possible background in military, police or emergency services. Computer literacy.
