Overview
Promotes and protects the physical and mental health of the ICRC workforce, overseeing all Staff Health activities for the Mekelle Sub-Delegation and its Area of Responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Carries out health briefings for new staff.
- Assesses and supervises living conditions and promotes general hygiene standards.
- Evaluates medical structures and services for staff referral and treatment.
- Provides advice and support to staff with health problems.
- Advises on medical needs during transportation and coordinates medical evacuations.
- Liaises with headquarters and coordinates local repatriation.
- Compiles guidelines for medical evacuation.
- Implements and supervises staff health policies and HIV/AIDS programme.
- Implements and follows up on ICRC stress policy.
- Collects data on illnesses, accidents, and absenteeism.
- Reviews medical invoices for anonymization and approval.
- Reports to delegation management and provides feedback.
- Carries out defusing and creates peer support groups following critical incidents.
- Facilitates awareness on communicable diseases and psychosocial topics.
- Advises staff on health-related queries.
- Contributes to responses to emergencies involving staff.
- Works with Addis staff health team on preparedness, prevention, and response to outbreaks.
- Provides regular updates of the SHAD platform.
- Builds and maintains relationships with designated health facilities.
- Follows up on administrative and contractual matters with medical facilities.
- Organizes and coordinates fitness to work evaluations.
- Facilitates and organizes First-aid training.
- Prepares inventory of staff health medical items and replenishes regularly.
- Organizes activities for promotion of physical and mental health.
- Works on referral mapping, awareness creation, and referral of cases.
- Implements policies for health insurance and medical expenses.
Required Experience
- Three years' clinical experience.
- Experience in mental health and stress management.
- Experience in medical evacuation and transportation.
- Knowledge of tropical health and public health.
- ICRC experience an asset.
Qualifications
- Medical doctor (master's degree in medicine) or registered nurse.
- Computer proficiency.
