Overview

The WASH Specialist supports WASH, Humanitarian and Resilience, including cholera and Public Health Emergencies (PHE), at global and field levels. The role provides expertise on cholera and other public health emergencies (PHE) in the field and at global level.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expertise on cholera and other public health emergencies (PHE) in the field and at global level.
  • Collaborate with other sections and teams within the Centre of Excellence (CoE), as well as with regional and country offices, to develop plans and activities aimed at strengthening UNICEF’s capacity to provide effective WASH support in public health emergencies.
  • Provide technical assistance to country offices to ensure adequate and appropriate support, both to respond to acute emergencies and to implement programmes aimed at preventing WASH-related diseases.
  • Provide technical support for the implementation of WASH activities under the Pandemic Fund project.

Required Experience

A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) in Public Health Emergencies - related programs, Humanitarian Assistance, Disease outbreaks etc) at the national and/or international levels, including at least 5 years of experience in emergency and humanitarian contexts, working with the UN, government, or INGOs.

Qualifications

Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in Public Health, Civil Engineering, Environmental Applied Engineering, Water & Sanitation and any other related fields is required.

Proficiency in English and French is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset. Experience working with UNICEF or other UN organizations during public health emergencies is an asset. Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
