Overview
Assists in the implementation of projects in Sudan, focusing on enhancing the competitiveness of strategic agri-value chains to boost SME and smallholder farmer participation. Formulates and designs new projects, monitors programme execution, and provides technical advice.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists in the implementation of projects in Sudan.
- Formulates and designs new projects, appraises, adjusts and presents project proposals.
- Monitors programme execution, identifies problems and utilizes information as an input to corrective actions.
- Analyzes economic, social and political factors affecting sectoral or regional development programmes.
- Analyzes development needs and appraises the suitability of proposed programmes and projects.
- Identifies development project possibilities and assesses their feasibility and impact.
- Formulates and presents project proposals.
- Introduces newly developed modalities, policies and practices into the project formulation process.
- Guides, coordinates and integrates the drafting of project proposals.
- Expedites and endorses submission of required operational documents for approved projects.
- Provides technical advice and guides consultants, project personnel, donors, institutions and governments.
- Develops schedules, arrangements and methods for project execution management.
- Exchanges information with government officials and donor agency representatives.
- Monitors and expedites project execution through discussions, correspondence, field visits, and analysis of progress reports.
- Organizes and conducts briefings and debriefings on projects.
- Supports project team in the field with technical and administrative requests.
- Follows the M&E Section of the PRODOCs and assures full financial records for verification and auditing.
- Assesses the degree of execution of technical assistance project activities and resources.
- Identifies problems and resource and financial deficiencies and proposes corrective actions.
Required Experience
- At least seven (7) years of professional experience in technical cooperation project management or portfolio project management.
- Some exposure at the international level.
- Ability to research and analyze information, make linkages with the strategic vision of the Organization and recommend solutions.
- Experience in evaluating the needs, conditions and problems in developing countries, is desirable.
- Familiarity with food systems and food security in developing countries especially in Africa is desirable.
- Experience within the UN system, Donors community and in Sudan or similar countries in sub-Saharan Africa is desirable.
- Knowledge of the international development agenda and strategic issues on climate change and sustainable livelihoods is desirable.
- Experience with UNIDO project management cycle and SAP is desirable.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in engineering, sciences, economics, development studies, business administration, international relations or other relevant discipline is required.
