Overview
The Communications Analyst position is located in the Country Office of UNFPA in Juba and works primarily with the Partnerships, Communications and Resource Mobilization team. S/he is responsible for translating and contributing to the delivery of the Country Office programme targets related to communications and partnerships development.
Key Responsibilities
- Substantially contribute to the conceptualization and development of a communication strategy for UNFPA South Sudan.
- Implement a communication strategy focusing on UNFPA’s global priorities in South Sudan.
- Provide analysis and communications guidance to the Country Office.
- Production and dissemination of communication and advocacy materials.
- Keep abreast with programme developments and organizes advocacy events.
- Build and maintain strong media and advocacy networks and relationships.
- Establish and maintain a system for constant scanning of UNFPA-produced information sources.
- Support timely preparation and response to global, regional and national media and advocacy events.
- Develops and produces a strong resources base for communications.
- Edit various reports/proposals/studies, press releases, speeches.
- Liaises with regional and sub-regional communication officers, as well as program staff in advocacy efforts.
- Ensure well-coordinated flow of information during Humanitarian response.
- Develops and maintains strategic partnerships and network with Communication Officers of UN system, key development partners, civil society organizations and national and international media.
- Support UNFPA’s representative in UN Communication Group and contributes to identifying new and creative ways to show how UN programs are delivering results.
- Organizes and undertakes field trips for donors and international and/or national media to UNFPA program sites.
- Organize training workshops for implementing partners and journalists.
- Support Country Office initiatives to build new and strengthen existing partnerships with bilateral donors, multilateral institutions, International Financial Institutions and the private sector.
- Support the development and implementation of the Resource Mobilization Roadmap and update the Resource Mobilization Strategy annually.
- Contribute to the maintenance of an updated list of all programs funded by donors.
- Stand-in for other Programme team members on selected functions as may be required.
- Carry out any other duties as may be required by UNFPA leadership.
Required Experience
- At least 3 years of increasingly responsible experience in public relations and communications
- Experience working with the Ministry of Health and Local Governments is desirable.
- Good knowledge of media and public relations;
- Strong advocacy skills
- A thorough understanding of the UN system in general, and especially UNFPA mandate, its policies and operations and current development topics and political issues in South Sudan will be an added advantage
- Knowledge of policies and program in post crisis situations;
- Familiarity with communications approaches for planning, executing, and monitoring communications strategies;
- Familiarity or experience of UNFPA communication guides is desirable
- Work experience in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health is preferred.
- Excellent computer/information systems skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team
Qualifications
- Masters Degree in social sciences, journalism, communications and other related fields.
- Professional membership of a journalism/media communications association, etc. will be desirable
