Overview
Oversee the day-to-day functions of the Executive Directorate Legal Affairs (EDLA) Executive Office, managing legal, organizational, and administrative issues. The role involves assisting the Executive Director in developing strategic initiatives, negotiating at high levels, and managing the EDLA Executive Office team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive Director Legal Affairs and General Counsel in planning, coordinating, and prioritizing activities related to legal advisory services on sensitive and strategic issues.
- Make recommendations to enhance the functioning of areas under the Executive Director’s responsibility.
- Draft or supervise the drafting of correspondence, reports, and strategic documents.
- Identify challenges and propose actions.
- Work with all components of the Organization to develop, communicate, and implement agreed priorities.
- Liaise and coordinate activity with other Directors to support their activities and ensure seamless coordination.
- Manage the EDLA Executive Office, including budget and staffing matters.
- Assign, supervise, and ensure the quality and prompt delivery of work from staff members.
- Act as the point of contact with other departments for legal, procedural, and strategic advice.
- Organize and convene internal and external meetings.
- Represent EDLA in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Draft required agreements and protocols.
- Maintain relationships with member country National Central Bureaus, representatives, and international organizations.
- Supervise staff in the context of specific programs, projects, or tasks.
- Monitor progress against milestones and deadlines.
Required Experience
Ten years' professional legal experience at increasing levels of responsibility in a legal, law enforcement, or policing environment. Experience supervising teams of lawyers and administrative staff. Sound knowledge of the legal aspects of law enforcement or police operations or projects, desired. Previous project management experience in multi-disciplinary projects, desired.
Qualifications
Higher education in law (Master's, JD, LLM, LLD or equivalent). Specialization in public international law or criminal law, desired.
