Overview

The role provides interpretation services for IOM AVRR programme activities and offers clerical and general support to AVRR staff and migrants.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide French to English or Turkish interpretation services.
  • Maintain neutrality during interpretation.
  • Provide clerical support to AVRR staff during counselling preparation.
  • Provide ad hoc support for written French - and English/Turkish translations.
  • Assist with the intake of migrants.
  • Provide general information on AVRR programme and answer basic queries.
  • Contribute to reporting and statistics.
  • Comply with IOM Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and migrant-friendly demeanour.
  • Maintain positive working relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion in treating applicants’ medical and personal information.
  • Assist the process of referring vulnerable migrants with special needs.
  • Inform management of any problems or issues and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Perform other related duties as may be required.
Required Experience
  • Two year of relevant professional experience with a Bachelor's degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, Linguistics, or related fields.
  • Four years of relevant experience with a completed High school diploma.
  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups is an advantage.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Experience in translation in case management processes is an advantage.
  • In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the organization.
  • Knowledge of implementing emergency/humanitarian projects.
  • Microsoft Office Skills.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, Linguistics, or related fields from an accredited academic institution.
  • Completed High school diploma from an accredited academic institution.

Languages Required
Fluency in French and Turkish or English is required (oral and written).
Languages Preferred
Working knowledge of other UN languages or Farsi is advantageous.
