Overview
The Local Security Assistant (LSA) SIOS -NPSA 5 role supports the operational activities of territorial offices by performing administrative follow-up on security-related operations. The role ensures the efficient functioning of security administration and provides timely service to offices and personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain permanent communication with fixed and mobile stations of the UN System for continuous monitoring, follow-up, and support of agency missions.
- Approve travel authorizations (Security Clearances) in ICP for missions in Bogotá and Cundinamarca.
- Provide initial response to security incidents involving UN System personnel and their dependents.
- Coordinate with UN System agencies, security bodies, and other entities for mission support.
- Maintain complete, updated, and organized records of communications and documentation.
- Operate communication systems according to established procedures.
- Contribute to the timely flow of information for decision-making within the UN System in Colombia.
- Keep the PLU Coordinator informed of mission developments, relevant incidents, and operational requirements.
- Prepare and present documents, reports, and technical inputs.
- Strengthen analysis and understanding of security dynamics impacting the UNSMS through information management.
- Compile, classify, consolidate, and systematize information related to security incidents.
- Support the Security Information and Coordination Unit (SICU) in preparing analytical security reports.
- Assist SICU members in compiling, analyzing, and preparing inputs for Security Risk Management (SRM) updates.
- Utilize and enhance knowledge in data analysis tools, information visualization, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Contribute to knowledge networks and professional communities.
Required Experience
Minimum of 5 years (with Secondary Education) or 2 years (with undergraduate degree) of relevant experience in security, including risk management, crisis and emergency response, security plan preparation, and information analysis.
Qualifications
- High school diploma (secondary education) is required.
- University Professional Degree (undergraduate level) in Security Sciences, Military, Police, Administrative, Occupational Health and Safety, and/or Social Sciences will be given due consideration, but is not a requirement.
