Key Responsibilities
  • Assess the impact of mergers on competition.
  • Establish if parties to a merger compete and identify competitors.
  • Critically assess submissions from merging parties.
  • Draft requests for information.
  • Conduct interviews.
  • Review internal documents such as strategic plans.
  • Gather forensic information.
  • Perform economic and data analysis.
  • Conduct site visits.
  • Prepare internal notes.
  • Brief hierarchy.
  • Develop a communications strategy.
  • Liaise with other Commission directorates.
  • Draft legally binding decisions.
  • Participate in working groups on policy issues and legislation.
  • Draft briefings for senior management and the Commissioner for Competition.
  • Assist the Legal Service in handling litigation in merger cases before the EU Courts.
Required Experience

Working experience in competition enforcement are clear assets. Applications from individuals trained in finance, engineering, chemistry or natural sciences, and an interest in competition enforcement are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

At least a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of at least 3 years attested by a diploma. Only qualifications issued or recognised as equivalent by EU Member State authorities (e.g. by the Ministry of Education) will be accepted.

Languages Required
A thorough knowledge (minimum level C1) of one of the 24 official languages of the EU. A satisfactory knowledge (minimum level B2) of a second official language of the EU, to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties. A very good command of English, both written and oral, is essential.

Contract Duration
The duration of the 1st contract will be of 1 to 4 years. The contract might then be extended only once for a maximum of 2 years.
Work Modality
The place of employment will be Brussels.
Remuneration
The pay of staff members consists of a basic salary supplemented with specific allowances, including, where applicable, expatriation and family allowances.
