Overview
The intern will support the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in its mission to protect human rights. Responsibilities include compiling information, analyzing issues, and assisting Human Rights Officers with various tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile basic information.
- Analyze key issues.
- Collect information and documents from UN headquarters- and country-level offices.
- Review relevant information and documents related to OHCHR work.
- Assist Human Rights Officers in maintaining contacts with UN Country Teams, human rights offices, NGOs, NHRIs, and OHCHR country presences.
- Assist in the coordination of the programme of missions of special rapporteurs, representatives, experts, working groups, and others.
- Liaise with thematic mechanisms teams and other OHCHR entities.
- Assist with activities pertaining to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and follow-up.
- Support with OHCHR activities related to information collection and compilation of basic background for technical papers and speeches.
- Support with selected fields of work and programme/project activities.
- Assist in organizing meetings, seminars, and official missions.
- Perform other duties requested by supervisor.
Qualifications
Applicants must either: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
