Overview

The Financial Reporting Specialist is responsible for efficient financial reporting and providing accurate, researched, and documented financial information for financial statement preparation. The role involves analyzing financial rules, regulations, and accounting standards to resolve complex financial issues and supervising support personnel.


Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare corporate financial statements in compliance with IPSAS, including supporting schedules and notes.
  • Prepare quarterly and year-end analysis of corporate financial statements for management review.
  • Analyze and respond to queries from stakeholders regarding corporate financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with IPSAS Accounting Standards and provide expert advice on book closure processes.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing schedules.
  • Monitor transactions and account balances for compliance with UNOPS Financial Rules and Regulations.
  • Identify data quality issues and liaise with relevant parties for corrections.
  • Maintain a log of issues, analyze data, and develop action plans for process improvement.
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining a strong control environment around financial reporting.
  • Ensure all book closure and reporting deadlines are met.
  • Prepare audit-related reports for the UN Board of Auditors, UNOPS Executive Board, and management.
  • Support the Head of Financial Statements and Audit during internal and external audits.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during interim and year-end audits.
  • Monitor, manage, and follow up on audit recommendations.
  • Support process documentation and continuous process improvements.
  • Become a subject matter expert for UNOPS ERP system financial reporting requirements.
  • Develop solutions to optimize financial processes, reduce manual work, and increase automation.
  • Provide guidance and advice to finance practitioners on financial accounting and IPSAS application.
Required Experience

Relevant experience is defined as financial reporting working experience within an international environment is required. A thorough knowledge of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is required.

Qualifications

Required Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) preferably in Finance, Accounting, Financial Management or a related field is required. Fully Qualified Accountant qualification with a recognised accountancy body (CA, CPA, ACCA, ACA, etc) is required. Desired Specialized certifications such as CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy) is considered an asset.
