Overview
The Senior Fingerprint Examiner is responsible for performing duties on an expert level within the Fingerprint Unit, including processing fingerprint data, providing training, and managing special projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepares, enters, and compares fingerprints using the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).
- Prepares findings for presentation and testifies as an expert witness.
- Ensures fingerprint database is in line with INTERPOL rules on data retention.
- Maintains AFIS latent fingerprint database, fingerprint records, and files.
- Files and deletes fingerprint records.
- Ensures the unit can reply 24/7 via on-call duty.
- Manages fingerprint duties as a member of Incident Response Teams (IRT).
- Trains identification staff in latent identification and AFIS use, including creating a training manual.
- Organizes and participates in training for fingerprint staff from member countries.
- Organizes meetings on AFIS capabilities.
- Informs Member Countries of AFIS success stories.
- Organizes and conducts visits of the unit.
- Prepares and provides presentations of the unit and/or special projects.
- Manages special projects assigned by the Coordinator.
- Represents the Coordinator in his/her absence.
- Performs any other duties as required by the supervisor.
Required Experience
At least three years’ experience in the area in question, and where necessary, management experience. Ten years’ experience in the area is required if the post holder does not have the required level of education.
Qualifications
Three to four years’ education at a University or other specialized higher education establishment.
