Overview

The Programme Officer provides strategic and operational support to the Office of the Deputy Director-General in key organizational priorities, fostering collaboration across divisions and with external partners.


Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate assigned programme/projects.
  • Monitor and analyse programme/project development and implementation.
  • Review relevant documents and reports, identify problems and propose corrective actions.
  • Liaise with relevant parties and identify and track follow-up actions.
  • Assist in policy development, including review and analysis of issues and trends.
  • Prepare written outputs such as background papers, analyses, and sections of reports.
  • Undertake outreach activities, conduct training workshops, and make presentations.
  • Coordinate activities related to budget and funding and prepare related documents.
  • Provide support on strategic and policy matters concerning special initiatives and events.
  • Coordinate the development, management, implementation and monitoring of DDG-led initiatives.
  • Contribute to leading FAO MuNe Network initiatives.
  • Support the preparation, coordination and organization of the annual Global Working Conference of FAO Representatives.
  • Contribute to the strategic coordination of Decentralized Offices.
  • Contribute to activities under the 'Four Betters', specifically Better Life initiatives.
  • Prepare presentations and provide support in communication and advocacy activities.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Required Experience
  • Five years of relevant experience in international cooperation for development, project or programme management, administration or related areas.
  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions.
  • Demonstrated ability to support complex initiatives involving internal and external stakeholders.
  • Extent and relevance of experience in programme/project formulation, analysis, planning and implementation.
Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in public administration, social science, political science, international development, international relations, environmental or agricultural studies or other discipline relevant to the work of the Organization.

Languages Required
Working knowledge (proficiency - level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).
Languages Preferred
Understanding of FAO policies and programmes is considered a strong asset.
Contract Duration
Fixed-term: one year with possibility of extension
