Overview
The Associate Political Affairs Officer will support the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) in the Democratic Republic of Congo by gathering and analyzing political information, monitoring developments, and providing advice to senior officials.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, select, verify, and analyze information from various sources.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of political issues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
- Monitor national and provincial political developments and provide advice.
- Provide technical and substantive support for the Political Affairs Division.
- Maintain contacts with other mission components, UN partners, and government authorities.
- Maintain regular contact with local political actors and civil society groups.
- Assist in compiling and producing written reports.
- Assist with the preparation of meetings.
- Coordinate preparations for special visits and support visiting delegations.
- Monitor actions taken by intergovernmental groups, UN organizations, government, and non-governmental organizations.
- Maintain database information relating to disputes and conflicts.
- Participate in fact-finding and joint missions.
- Assist in conflict resolution or crisis management initiatives.
- Prepare presentations, briefings, and information packages.
- Participate in field visits in difficult circumstances.
- Perform any other related duties as may be required.
Required Experience
3 years of relevant experience.
Qualifications
Master's degree in Political science.
