Overview
Support the development and implementation of public health laboratory capacity and response for infectious disease surveillance and emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Support COVID-19 laboratory capacity & response, including technical guidance and performance assessment.
- Provide technical and implementation support for Influenza Surveillance and Pandemic Influenza Preparedness & Response.
- Offer technical advice for early detection and laboratory support for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
- Support the development and implementation of a national public health laboratory network strategy.
- Support the development and establishment of a National Quality Assurance System for public health laboratories.
- Support the development and implementation of a robust laboratory information system and data sharing.
- Support assessing training needs, developing training materials, and conducting public health laboratory training.
- Contribute to assessments and training for laboratory biosafety and biosecurity.
- Provide technical and implementation support for surveillance of antimicrobial resistance.
- Support coordination and team management for laboratory capacity building interventions.
Required Experience
- At least two years' practical experience in the development, advocacy, planning, implementation of laboratory based infectious disease surveillance programmes.
- Designing and managing public health microbiology / virology laboratory.
- Demonstrated exposure at the international level.
- Previous experience with WHO or other UN agencies.
- Acquiring funding and managing large infectious disease surveillance projects from international funding agencies.
- Experience in outbreak investigation of emerging infectious diseases.
- Laboratory expertise in a wide range of infectious hazards evidenced by research publications.
- University level teaching and research experience.
Qualifications
- Essential: A university degree (bachelor’s) in the Medical Laboratory Technology field / Medical Microbiology.
- Desirable: An advanced university degree in Medical Microbiology.
