Overview
The Coordinator role focuses on providing technical assistance to Federal Member States to enhance equitable access to quality health services, build health system resilience, and coordinate WHO's emergency preparedness and response. The position involves coordinating planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of regional health priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise the work of WHO FMS team, focusing on health systems strengthening and emergency preparedness and response.
- Facilitate information sharing and programme support using the Primary Health Care (PHC) approach.
- Support Health System Strengthening efforts at the FMS Level.
- Liaise with the MOH at FMS level to identify support needs and discuss appropriate responses.
- Participate in and contribute to the development of the WCO/Somalia biennial plan.
- Facilitate and coordinate the preparation and implementation of the WCO integrated regional annual action plan.
- Facilitate WHO's contribution to regional United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) planning and monitoring activities.
- Strengthen/facilitate the establishment of health partnerships at FMS level.
- Facilitate and participate in FMS planning, monitoring and evaluation fora.
- Provide technical and administrative reports on a monthly basis to the Country Office.
- Participate in annual planning and review meetings of technical teams in the WCO.
- Provide input to the WCO Communication Strategy implementation.
- Ensure the optimal use of WHO financial, technical, logistic and human resources.
- Oversee performance management and professional development of office staff.
- Undertake measures to ensure an ethical and conducive work environment, free from harassment.
- Make mechanisms for prevention and management of conflicts and cases of harassment available to all staff.
- Undertake measures to ensure the safety and security of all WHO staff and dependents.
Required Experience
A minimum of 7 years work experience in public health with emphasis in health system strengthening, especially primary health care and/or emergency preparedness and response. Experience in management and coordination of health-related programs/projects and/or emergency response will be an added advantage. Experience in a United Nations organization.
Qualifications
Essential: Master's degree in medicine or public health or health related field from an accredited/recognized institution. Desirable: Master's Degree level (or above) in health systems, program management, or public health.
