Overview

This internship supports the Library and Communications and Knowledge Management Section in managing library resources and raising visibility of ESCAP's work. The role involves assisting with digitization, information management, collection management, reference services, cataloguing, and creating publicity materials.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting in the library’s digitization efforts
  • Taking part in the library’s information management, knowledge management, and digital asset management tasks and initiatives
  • Assisting in collection management activities (shelving, weeding, etc.)
  • Assisting in reference and circulation services
  • Cataloguing books, serials and multimedia materials in the library’s integrated library system (ILS) and institutional repository
  • Designing and publishing publicity and training materials on the library’s e-resources, services and ESCAP publications, including online brochures, streaming video presentations, and curated email updates
  • Performing other related work, as required
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. A field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

Languages Required
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the internship programme.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of an additional ESCAP working language (Russian) is an asset.
Contract Duration
3 - 6 Months
Work Modality
full-time at the Bangkok duty station but can be adjusted based on request by the successful candidate
Remuneration
This internship is unpaid. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
