Overview
The ICRC is seeking a Weapon Contamination Field Officer to identify risks, analyze exposure patterns, and implement measures to reduce their impact on civilians and aid efforts in Taunggyi.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct continuous scanning of the environment and provide timely updates and analysis.
- Develop an understanding of the weapon contamination situation and provide hazards identification and risk assessments.
- Participate in the definition of WeC strategy, objectives, plans of action and associated budgets.
- Plan, implement and monitor ICRC weapon contamination operations.
- Provide training, mentoring and orientation to the MRCS and Civil Society on WeC activities.
- Contribute to the overall security and staff safety.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with local authorities and other organizations.
- Collect the relevant data on weapon wounded and victims.
- Contributes to the knowledge and application of International Humanitarian Law.
- Maintain updated the reporting cycle and register and treat information accurately and with confidentially.
- Contribute to the drafting, maintenance and application of all WeC related SOPs, guidelines and technical documents.
- Prepare the administration and logistics for specialist WeC training.
- Interprets accurately from English to National language and vice versa during field visits.
- Translates documents from English to National language and vice versa.
Required Experience
- Work experience in Risk Awareness and Safer Behavior or a similar field.
- Specialized Training or Certification in areas such as Humanitarian Mine Action, or Risk Education.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or a professional/vocational school diploma or an equivalent qualification is required.
- Knowledge of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and its application to weapons and armed conflict, preferably gained through formal coursework or professional training.
- Excellent communication skills, trainer, facilitation skills, presentation, negotiation and analytical skills.
- Ability to effectively engage with communities, local authorities, and humanitarian actors, and to deliver training, reports, and risk assessments clearly and accurately.
- Capacity to analyze political, social environment and good knowledge of the geographically assigned environment.
- Advanced computer proficiency especially in MS Office suite (especially Excel), as well as proficiency in internet usage and email.
