Overview

The Senior Medical Associate oversees medical assistance at the IOM Migrant Transit Centre in Addis Ababa, ensuring primary and secondary medical care for vulnerable migrant returnees.


Key Responsibilities
  • Organize and assign duties to Medical Assistants at the TC.
  • Develop and update TC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to medical assistance.
  • Supervise and train medical staff at the TC.
  • Assist in analyzing migrant flow and satisfaction tools.
  • Prepare medical forms, labels, and schedule health assessments.
  • Ensure the reception area is organized.
  • Propose fraud prevention measures for customer care.
  • Oversee the completion and transmission of medical documents.
  • Prepare monthly statistics on Health Assessments.
  • Respond to queries regarding the Protection Unit and medical staff.
  • File incoming/outgoing correspondence and IOM medical documents.
  • Participate in health assessment missions.
  • Suggest improvements to internal control mechanisms and procedures.
  • Support coordination of medical cases with referral facilities and partner hospitals.
  • Monitor implementing partners and report non-compliance.
  • Provide inputs for SOPs and concept papers.
  • Coordinate and monitor the work of other staff in the unit.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Required Experience
  • Four years of relevant working experience with a Bachelor's degree in health sciences, Public Health, or a related field; or six years of relevant working experience with a high school diploma.
  • Experience in coordinating administrative, health support, or operational activities, preferably in a customer service, health, humanitarian, or administrative environment.
  • Knowledge of data management principles.
  • Knowledge of customer care.
  • Experience in records management, document filing, or archival systems is an added advantage.
  • Previous working experience with NGOs or international organizations is an added advantage.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in health sciences, Public Health, or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or High school diploma.

Fluency in English & Amharic is required (oral and written).
Languages Preferred
Other Ethiopian languages (incl. Afaan Oromoo and Tigrigna).
