Overview
The Shelter Technical Assistant is responsible for planning, supervising, and monitoring shelter maintenance and construction activities in refugee camps, ensuring implementation is safe, efficient, and meets technical specifications and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Resolves engineering problems by collecting and analyzing information, researching, adapting, and modifying engineering techniques, recommending solutions, preparing drawings, schematics, and diagrams, evaluating components, materials, and suppliers, resolving design integration issues, developing specifications and safety standards, and performing installations.
- Supervises daily shelter construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation activities to ensure compliance with approved technical specifications, BoQs, safety requirements, and quality standards.
- Monitors the performance of incentive-based volunteers and skilled labourers.
- Conducts relevant assessments in the camp, including caravan repairing assessments.
- Follows up with labours to ensure tasks are done based on agreed specifications, requirements, quality, and on time.
- Reports work progress on daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
- Prepares detailed plans for project implementation and ensures follow-up and updating of the plan.
- Prepares material requests, dispatch forms, and quantity estimates.
- Reports implementation challenges, delays, risks, and technical issues with proposed mitigation measures.
- Performs other functions assigned by the supervisor.
Required Experience
- 1 year of experience
- Experience from working within technical expertise in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Qualifications
- B.A degree in engineering, Civil/Architectural/Mechanical/Electrical engineering.
- Relevant vocational qualification
