Overview

Provide technical and operational support for Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) and Gender-Based Violence in Emergencies (GBViE) interventions under the Country Programme, Humanitarian Action for Children (HAC), and Core Commitments for Children in Humanitarian Action (CCCs). Support preparedness, response, coordination, and recovery efforts.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance to UNICEF staff and implementing partners.
  • Strengthen programme quality and adherence to standards.
  • Support intersectoral integration of child protection and GBV risk mitigation.
  • Contribute to assessments, situation monitoring, and data analysis.
  • Assist in the development of workplans, donor inputs, budgets, and periodic reports.
  • Facilitate capacity-building initiatives for government counterparts and partners.
  • Support coordination with relevant sectors, including Education.
  • Contribute to related priorities such as mine action, Safe to Learn, community economic empowerment and reinforced community-based child protection systems.
Required Experience

A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in social development planning and management in child protection related areas is required. Relevant experience in programme development in child protection in humanitarian settings and GBViE related areas in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset. Demonstrated experience in training and capacity-building in child protection in humanitarian action including the adaptation of materials for frontline actors with varying levels of literacy and formal education. Strong experience in community-based child protection mechanism and community engagement in child protection. Experience working in a politically sensitive environment in a principled, confidential, and politically aware manner. Well versed in humanitarian principles including localization of humanitarian response, PSEA and acceptability to affected populations (AAP). Experience and knowledge of the Child Protection challenges of Mali / Sahel context is an asset. Familiar with the humanitarian coordination and child protection roles and responsibilities in the humanitarian reset. Experience with the UN system preferably UNICEF is an asset. Experience in data processing and information management is desirable. Familiarity with cash transfers and economic empowerment for vulnerable people and households is desirable.

Qualifications

An advanced degree (master’s or higher) in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or another relevant social science field. A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
