Overview

WFP seeks a Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership and oversight for the planning, design, procurement, contract management, and handover of safe evacuation sites.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed assessments and prepare technical reports.
  • Develop designs, including drawings, scope of works, technical specifications, and BoQ.
  • Support tender processes.
  • Oversee and monitor project implementation on site.
  • Perform day-to-day site supervision of contractor activities.
  • Review and validate contractor's detailed designs, shop drawings, method statements, material approvals, and as-built documentation.
  • Check and approve test results for materials.
  • Maintain detailed site daily records, work progress reports, testing logs, and minutes of site meetings.
  • Participate in weekly progress meetings and coordinate with the contractor and other stakeholders.
  • Attend meetings and prepare and review reports, minutes, and correspondence.
  • Liaise with stakeholders.
  • Undertake administrative tasks and provide project management services.
  • Provide guidance and direction to contractors and design consultants.
  • Ensure contractors abide by health and safety standards.
  • Notify KHMCO of serious breaches to health and safety rules or environmental issues.
  • Support the commissioning and final handover process.
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Experience

Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in civil engineering, preferably in rural development and/or humanitarian contexts. Experience managing and/or overseeing engineering design and construction contracts, including review of designs, technical specifications and contractor performance. Experience working with government agencies, local authorities and multiple stakeholders, preferably in rural infrastructure development projects. Experience in disaster-resilient infrastructure, emergency preparedness facilities, public buildings or rural infrastructure projects is highly desirable.

Qualifications

First University degree in Civil Engineering or architecture with a specialisation or Postgraduate qualifications is desirable. Professional engineering certification and/or registration with a recognized engineering body is desirable. Additional training in construction management, contract management, project management or disaster-resilient infrastructure is an advantage.
